Host Family FAQs

The primary requirement for becoming a host family is the desire to open your heart and home to our participants. Secondly, the host family must apply and be interviewed as well as visited in the home. Approved host families must complete our Host Family Orientation and commit to our JLH Principles™
Not usually. JLH representatives will present you with the profile of a candidate, including nationality, age, gender and length of stay before a placement. At this time, the host has the opportunity to accept or decline the participant.
All homestay arrangements require some adjustment. If any problems arise that cannot be resolved directly with the participant, Just Like Home representatives will place the participant in another home within 24-36 hours.
Typically, we limit the number of placement to two per session. On an exception basis, we may allow three, depending on the size of the home and the number of bathrooms.
Your homestay participant pays Just Like Home for each four-week stay at the beginning of each cycle. The host family is paid for the four week stay at the end of the first week of the stay. If either party is not satisfied with the match, the host family must refund the unused portion of the homestay fee.
The personal profiles and requirements (from the applications) of both the host families and homestay participants are compared and matched accordingly. The host family will have the option of accepting a participant after learning about the participant’s profile.

The length of homestay can range from one week to several months. The average stay is 8-12 weeks.

Yes. English language students will have varying levels of proficiency; however, the college students and the executives are usually more proficient in English.

International visitors will be participating in one of our two programs. They will either be students or executives. Students will attend language schools or colleges, where they will study English or pursue a degree. Executive will be working as medical or business professionals, scholars or interns.

Homestay Program

Staying with a host family provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in American culture, practice English in a real-world setting, and form lasting friendships. You will be treated as a member of the family, participating in daily activities and special events.

Host families are carefully screened through a detailed application process, interviews, and home visits. They are selected based on their desire to share their culture and provide a safe, welcoming environment.

If you encounter any issues that cannot be resolved, Just Like Home representatives will assist in relocating you to another host family within 24-36 hours.

Host families are patient and supportive, helping you improve your English through daily interactions. Additionally, many host families have experience hosting international guests and understand the challenges of language barriers. Many guests with lower English proficiency use translation apps until their language skills improve.

Yes, Just Like Home prioritizes safety. All host families undergo background checks, and their homes are inspected to ensure a safe living environment. Emergency contact information and 24/7 support are provided to all participants.

In case of an emergency, you can contact your host family, use the provided emergency contact numbers, or reach out to Just Like Home representatives for immediate assistance.

Roommate Program

Just Like Home matches roommates based on personal profiles and preferences submitted in the application process. You will receive information about potential roommates, including background and preferences, before finalizing the arrangement.

If any issues arise that cannot be resolved, Just Like Home will assist in finding alternative accommodation or a new roommate to ensure a comfortable living situation.

Stays typically range from a few weeks to several months, depending on individual agreements and availability. There are cases when stays become long-term for various reasons.

Corporate Apartments

Just Like Home offers a range of fully furnished apartments, including studio units and multi-bedroom apartments, catering to different needs and preferences.

Yes, utilities such as internet, cable, and water are typically included in the rent. Specific details will be provided in the rental agreement.

Most apartment facilities offer either garage parking or on-street parking options. Please note that on-street parking often requires a permit.

If you face any issues with your apartment, Just Like Home provides responsive support to address and resolve the problem promptly.

Yes, all apartments are inspected for safety and compliance with local regulations. Just Like Home ensures that all accommodation meets high safety standards.

Yes, lease extensions are possible subject to availability. Please contact Just Like Home representatives to discuss extension options.

Immersion Program

The program includes weekly excursions, social events, and holiday activities with the host family, enhancing the cultural immersion experience.

Stays range from two to four weeks, with specific dates and durations provided upon inquiry.

If any issues arise that cannot be resolved with your host family, Just Like Home representatives will assist with resolving the issue(s) or in finding alternative arrangements to ensure a positive experience.

Participants have access to a caring host family, responsive Just Like Home representatives, and comprehensive orientation to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
